Perseverance

“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.”

by Newt Gingrich

I like that quote as it reflects quite my journey with Misfit over the last 20 years.

I have started him as a 4-year-old with not much knowledge from my side. We had ups and downs, I taught him new things, re-did things, changed my approaches a million times, kept repeating and polishing, was also sometimes frustrated and not happy with the outcome. But we kept going and still are going.

Since he got skin problems eight years ago caused by metabolism disorder, I train him mostly from the ground because he does not like the friction and tightness of the saddle especially in the summer months. But there is so much to discover from the ground that I never get bored.

Today, I am very happy with where he is at. Things do not have to be perfect anymore (and what is perfect anyway, it always depends on the individual’s point of view), but I still aim for quality in the training.

Here, it looks more like a Pesade instead of a Levade but it does not matter as he does it with ease and carries himself properly …. when I see and feel moments like this I am just happy how far we came.
